Walmart Contacts has one of the better return policies in the category and almost nobody knows it. Ninety days, money back, on a product most sellers will not take back after thirty. Free shipping on everything, no minimum order.
It is not the fastest way to get lenses, and there is one line in their help pages you should never take them up on. But on the terms that matter after the sale, they are stronger than their profile suggests.
Ninety days, and what that is actually worth
Their policy: “All contact lenses carry a 90-day money back guarantee with proof of purchase from walmartcontacts.com.” Defective lenses are exchanged separately if the manufacturer confirms the defect.
Set that against the rest of the category:
- Walmart Contacts — 90 days, included
- LensDirect — 30 days, or 365 days for $10
- ContactsDirect — six months, included
Ninety free days covers the scenario that actually happens: you buy an annual supply, the new lens does not agree with your eyes after a few weeks of real wear, and you want out. Thirty days is often not long enough to know. Ninety usually is.
Free shipping, and the timing nobody warns you about
Shipping is free to every US address including territories and APO, FPO and DPO. That is genuinely unusual — most sellers exclude military and territory addresses from free shipping, and Walmart does not.
The published options:
- Standard, free — 5–7 business days after prescription verification
- Expedited, $5 — 3–4 business days after verification
- Next day, $10 — 1 business day after verification
Read those three words carefully: after prescription verification. Verification is a separate clock that runs first, and Walmart says it can take up to one business day.
Under the federal rule, that clock is eight business hours, and a business hour is legally defined as 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. So an order placed on a Friday evening does not start counting until Monday morning and may not clear until Monday afternoon — before the 5 to 7 business days even begins.
Worst realistic case on free shipping: order Friday night, lenses arrive the middle of the following week or later. That is not Walmart being slow. It is the regulation plus a conservative shipping estimate stacking up. Plan around it, or upload your prescription, which skips verification entirely.
The line you should not take them up on
Walmart offers to “obtain your prescription for you (a small fee may apply).”
Do not pay this. Not because it is improper — a seller is entitled to charge for a service — but because your prescriber is legally required to give you that prescription for free, whether or not you ask, and may not charge you for the copy. Under 16 CFR §315.3 you already have it, or you are entitled to it with one email.
Get your own copy once, keep it, and upload it. It is free, it removes a day or more from every future order, and you can then buy from whoever is cheapest rather than whoever happens to hold it.
Two things that confuse people
walmartcontacts.com is not walmart.com. The contact lens operation runs on its own site with its own account, its own cart and its own policies. Orders placed through the main Walmart vision pages are handled differently. If you are trying to return something, the 90-day guarantee is written specifically for purchases “from walmartcontacts.com” — so buy in the right place, and keep the confirmation.
Membership is irrelevant here. Unlike a warehouse club, there is no membership to buy and no member pricing to weigh. What you see is the price. That makes Walmart a cleaner comparison than Costco, where you have to fold in a membership fee to compare honestly.
Who should use them
Buy from Walmart Contacts if you are trying a new lens for the first time and want a real window to change your mind, or you are shipping to a military or territory address where other sellers charge extra or refuse.
Look elsewhere if you need lenses this week and have not uploaded a prescription. The verification clock plus a 5-to-7-day standard estimate is not a fast combination.
And as always, check the price of your specific lens before deciding. Return policies matter, but the gap between the cheapest and dearest seller of an identical box is usually larger — our price index tracks it, and our retailer comparison puts all of them side by side.
Policies were checked in September 2026 and retailers change them without notice; confirm on the retailer’s own site before ordering. We may earn a commission on some retailer links, which does not affect what we say about them. Reviewed by Dr. Teresita Bollar, OD.
